Our two 16U girls’ teams competed in their first tournament of the season this past Saturday at the 16U girls’ Provincial Cup!  It was a long day for both teams, but they came away from the competition pleased with their performance and eager to improve upon it in the season’s next tournament.

Stingrays ’95 Rush had a 2-2 record after the morning pool-play games, having lost two games to Eclipse and having won both games against the Stingers.  In the playoffs, Rush had a tough loss to the Hurricanes Black, but came together and won their final game of the day against the ACTS Elites.  Rush finished the day tied for 9th place.

Stingrays ’95 Whip also came out of the pool play with a 2-2 record.  After taking both of their games against the Hurricanes Black, Whip fell to Oakville Thunder Black.  In the afternoon playoffs, the girls moved past the ACTS Elites in the pre-quarter finals, winning 2/3 sets.  In the quarter finals, the team beat Oakville Thunder Blue, winning 2/3 sets to advance to the semi-finals.  Whip lost the semi-final match to Lakeside VC in straight sets.  In the bronze medal game, after winning the first set against Oakville Thunder Black, the girls lost the second set.  After a tense third set, the team fell just short of a medal, losing 15-13 to Thunder.  Full Results for the tournament are posted on the OVA website here.

All of our 16U athletes played a strong game on Saturday, and the coaches and spectators were excited to see the teams coming together so well this early in the season.  The Stingrays Volleyball Club would like to thank the parents from both teams for supporting their girls through a long first tournament!  Everyone at the club is excited to be back in the gym this week for practice, and can’t wait to hit the court again at the next 16U tournament, which takes place on January 8, 2011.  As information on this tournament becomes available, it will be posted to our Schedule page.

Congratulations to our teams on a great start to what is sure to be an exciting season!
